The University of Kelaniya develops a smart ceiling fan controller together with Orel Corporation Pvt Ltd
The University of Kelaniya and Orel Corporation Pvt Ltd celebrated a successful collaboration with a product launch and license agreement signing ceremony on 27th April 2023 at the Trace City Auditorium.
The event marked the launch of the new product; “Smart Ceiling Fan Controller” developed by the University of Kelaniya and manufactured by Orel Corporation Pvt Ltd, as well as the signing of five license agreements for newly invented and patented technologies of the University of Kelaniya to Orel Corporation Pvt Ltd.
The new product was developed by a research team led by Senior Professor S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science while the licensing agreement signing for the patented technologies was developed by the research team of the Electronic Design and Innovation Center of the University of Kelaniya.
The technology integrated with this smart ceiling fan controller allows homeowners to automate their ceiling fans through a smartphone app and it does not require a neutral connection. Any currently used ceiling fans can also be converted into smart ceiling fans using this launched technology and it only requires replacing the existing fan regulator with the newly manufactured one.
Present at the occasion were Professor Chandana Udawatte - Vice Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva - Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. Sanath Wijethunga - CEO of Orel Corporation Pvt Ltd, Professor Thusitha Abeytunga - Lead Academic Expert Research & Innovation - AHEAD Operations, other officials, and researchers from both organizations.
